Brewer 41' Steel Hull sailboat, full keel
Description
Make/Model: Brewer/Kaiulani 38, LOD 38, LWL 32’6”, LOA 41’3”, displacement 23000 (empty) ballast 7200lbs poured lead, beam 11’10”, draft 5’. Featured in Cruising World, 1984.
Engine: Perkins 4-108, hours 3000 (approx. prob less) with new PSS dripless shaft seal. Vetus electric bow thruster. Fischer Panda 6.5kw diesel genset (500 hours).
Tankage: Fuel 100gal, Water 100 Electrical: Batteries-3 Northstar AGM=540AH, 1AGM (2016) starter battery for genset, 95A Delco altern Balmar AR5 reg. Fischer Panda 6.5Kw diesel genset (450 hours), Magnum MS2000 2k inverter/charger (2016). 50amp shore power with cord/adapters. Galvanic isolator. Four position battery switch. Rotary switch for shore/genset power source.
Electronics/Navigation: New Raymarine NEMA 2000 (2015) instruments with repeater at nav desk. Vesper xb8000 AIS/GPS/wifi class B transponder that networks w/ phonet. Raymarine A78 chartplotter. Furuno 1715 radar with dome mounted on mast. Autohelm 5000 autopilot. New Garmin 200 VHF 2016
Danforth 6" compass rebuilt by E.B. White 2014.
Galley: CNG 3 burner gimballed stove/oven w/ 2 120 cu ft tanks in custom rack, Seafrost engine driven and Adler Barbour 12V Super Cold Machine. Huge Top-loading fridge. Double stainless steel sink w/ new faucet and Finnspray salt water pump in 2016. Pressurized/filtered fresh water system with expansion tank. Allcraft (all stainless) 6gal hot water heater uses engine, genset or shore power. Generous cabinetry/counters.
Hull: Entire hull was galvanized at construction. Radius chine (rounded) design. Hull thickness; Keel shoe 1”, below waterline thickness graduates from 1” to 3/16”, waterline to deck is 10 gauge (just over 1/8”).
Hull has been sandblasted/soda blasted below waterline 3 times since current owner purchased in 2001 and barrier coat redone with 4 coats Ameron 385. Hull has 11 zincs. Single welded intake supplies engine/head/salt water pump. Another welded to hull is exit for head. One other for genset is marelon.
In 2011 deck was sandblasted, replated where needed, and repainted with basecoats of Ameron 385, topcoated with ameron PSX 700. New deckfills (2011). New stainless steel cleats, welded to deck (2011). Stanchion bases welded to deck (2011).
Topsides were painted in 2010 with multiple undercoats of Ameron 385 as primer and Ameron PSX700 as topcoats. Deck was sandblasted to bare metal, replating done as needed, primed with Ameron 385 (2 part epoxy paint) and top coated with Ameron PSX700
Ground Tackle:Lofrans Tigres electric windlass (2011) with helm/bow controls 200’ of 3/8” BBB chain (2012) with 25kg(55lb) Rocna(2016).
Secondary anchor 45lb CQR with 40ft 3/8” BBB chain and 210ft ¾ inch double braid anchor line. Double bow roller. Multiple oversized docklines, 6 fenders, 3 fenderboards.
Rigging/Sails:Stainless steel wire, replaced 2016. Aluminum mast, double spreader with running backstays and double lowers. Stainless steel mast step. Quick release for club-footed, hanked on staysail with traveler. All sheets lead to cockpit. Halyards for main and staysail lead to cockpit. Jiffy reefing.New Garhauer traveler (2011).New lifelines 2011. New sailtracks 2011.
Sobstad mainsail, new 2006. North 8.0 oz. Yankee 2012.Furlex roller reefing.Staysail is original and in good shape.Full set of storm sails with separate track on mast.Assymetrical spinnaker, 1.75 in turtle bag.All original sails included and are serviceable.
Accomodations: Offset double vee berth with 2 sail lockers and access to bow thruster beneath. Access to chain locker at foot of berth via double doors. Cedar lined lockers, 6 drawers. Most lighting is LED. New stereo for 4 speaker system with outside speakers replaced 2011.Mast is keel stepped. Solid teak folding dining table that accommodates 6 and has complete set of removable fiddles. All new cushions-blue microfiber 2014. Cockpit cushions replaced 2012.HUGE amount of storage space.Former sea berth replaced with cabinetry that can mount 20 inch LCD/TV on inner surface of door so that it can be closed underway to keep TV from being damaged. Another accomodates microwave.2 large bookshelves. New bimini in 2015. Dodger resewn with new glass 2012.
Aft cabin to port with double berth, hanging locker, 4 drawers 10 opening and 2 fixed ports, 3 opening hatches, 4 dorades
Heat: Refleks diesel heater, Auxiliary 2 speed heater from engine. Hella fan.
Head: Wilcox Crittenden Skipper II manual head, stainless sink, cabinetry, large separate shower stall with seat, 20 gallon holding tank, deck pumpout, macerator.
Safety: Fire extinguisher mounted near engine, spare in locker. EPIRB (2014). Bass on/off for CNG solenoid. Multiple flares. Tricolor/anchor/strobe at masthead. VHF can operate loudhailer/fog/signal speaker on mast. RAM mic for VHF at helm.
Hull was high pressure waterblasted to bare metal 12/17 (69k lbs/sq inch.Is in need of some welding/replating(see pics)Yard estimated 85 hours.If u can weld and refair hull below waterline this is your chance to get a fully equipped blue water boat at a fraction of the cost.We took her to the Bahamas and back last year. the pics are from that that trip and while using her last Summer. Lovingly maintained/upgraded but were just getting to old to take this on after 18 years.Everything works-replate, fair and go.
