Electric 26 foot sloop Sailboat, cruiser/racer
Description
This 1978 sailboat gas two stroke engine was replaced by a 5 kW electric motor attached directly to the existing lower unit making for a simple, reliable and powerful system. The motor runs off a 48 Volt Odyssey AGM battery bank (each battery has its own insulated charger), it is maintenance free, and very quiet. Because electric motors have high torque at low power they are really good at low-speed maneuvering and docking. Mirage sailboats are known as efficient cruising boats with well-appointed interiors. “Extra Dry has been updated with induction cooking, solar vents, a new marine head, synthetic teak, and it comfortably sleeps 4. The steering wheel has been removed and replaced by a tiller and all the foresails now have hanks installed. Both the steering wheel and the racing profiled head-stay come with the boat and can be reinstalled quickly. It has a recent high efficiency mainsail and a mixture of cruising and racing (Mylar/Kevlar) head-sails, with spinnaker and pole. It is one of the few sailboats that performs on the race course and is a weekend cruiser. Originally from Canada, “Extra Dry” spent its entire life on fresh water until 2015, and has been meticulously maintained.
