BLUE MOON is a fiberglass 26' sloop with a shoal draft keel and centerboard, designed by William Tripp, Jr, and Dutch-built in 1965. She has traditional lines, which means she looks like a real sailboat instead of a Clorox bottle. She was marketed as a Sailmaster 26. Only about 120 of these boats were built. I bought Blue Moon a few years back for use as an offshore training vessel for the Seamanship & Navigation course I had been teaching for 20 years. Alas, I am no longer teaching the course. But one of us needs to stay employed, and she volunteered. For her size, she is a fast boat in light airs, runs even better in heavy ones, and performs well on all points of sail. Overall, I have found her to be a stable and seaworthy vessel, with no strange quirks even in full-gale conditions. Properly handled - and I speak as a Coast Guard licensed captain with 40 years' sailing experience - she can take you just about anywhere you are crazy enough to sail her.
