Description
Within a Story Comes a Purpose.
Many have asked why I was investing (spending) so much time, money, and effort trying to restore an older boat. At the time I did not know how to respond to that question so I left it unanswered. Now that I am nearing the end of my ability to restore it, here is my long awaited response.
The boat I have been working on had a previous life. The owner (who's name I will keep anonymous) served 17+ years with this boat in the Coast Guard making it much more than merely a fishing boat.
This summer I had the privilege of restoring her to the best of my ability. (Ask any captain and they will tell you a restore is never truly completed.)A few days ago, with respect to the prior owner, I called the Coast Guard asking for a Coast Guard Vessel exam. Long-story-short, the exam is set for this Thursday.
While speaking to the gentleman on the phone from the Coast Guard, he asked about the boat. Within a few short answers he knew exactly whose boat it was. Sadly, the gentleman who previously owned it passed away; however, he said he will contact the previous owner's widow and share with her that her husband's boat will live on, hopefully sharing his story, too.
I know for many of you this story may not make much sense, but for a few it will. It is not about living, it is about leaving a legacy.
This boat was not merely his fishing boat, it was his partner. He, this boat, and many others like him, have saved countless lives each year, all while risking, and even sacrificing his or her own.
I can only hope and pray the next owner takes into consideration what this boat represents and cares for it for many more years to come.
This boat is a dream of mine! Being a U.S. Coast Guard boat, it has been meticulously maintained by Black River Marina.
She does run and she is an amazing boat, BUT I am selling her "as is." If you have any questions, please call: 989-486-4883, I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have!
