Description
Benford Design 45'
Howdy Bailey Steel Pilothouse / Raised Salon,
The Casa Islena, a Benford Design was custom built as an ocean yacht with relaxation in mind. Several meetings between owner and Master builder by excellence, Howdy Bailey, resulted in a layout with 2 private staterooms, 2 salons and 2 heads, one with separate shower, and a chef's galley with Corian counters. The lower salon features a curved settee with 2 tub chairs for comfort; entertainment centre ( TV, DVD, stereo) or just enjoy reading with accurate LED lighting with dimmers for ambiance. The raised salon features a settee on port side with an adjustable coffee / dinning table with large windows to enjoy your surroundings. The captains chair is adjustable to be used for work and pleasure.
All interior wood work completed in 2008 is from hand picked American Cherry finished with 5 coats of marine varnish, by one of Canada's finest hand crafters in the Marine industry.
A spiral staircase leads to the aft owner's cabin with ample closets, built in drawers and large berth.
To quote Howdy Bailey" We achieved the space of a 55 in only 45 feet!"
All rigging was designed with world ocean, single handed cruising in mind. It includes Andersen stainless steel winches, and electric for mainsail, with Shaeffer boom and jib furlers and all deck hardware. This vessel has been slightly used in fresh water only and is priced well below replacement cost.

The DesignerJay R. Benford has a lifetime of experience in the creation of custom yachts. Since 1962 Jay has been earning his way in the narrow and difficult field of custom yacht design. He's designed boats for many uses, tug boats, fishing boats, cruising sailboats, liveaboards and freighter yachts. They've all been successful and beautiful, incorporating all the space and function his clients desire, in a unique and lovely form. More than that, they've almost been magical in the way they've met their owner's dreams. Thousands of Benford designs have been built and sailed safely all over the world.
The BuilderHowdy Bailey Yacht Services is located on Little Creek in Norfolk, Virginia on the south side of the Chesapeake Bay from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. This is a small operation that is capable of big things. They have a dedicated and very capable team led by perfectionist Howdy Bailey.
A few years ago Howdy decided that the time had come to slow down, so he is no longer taking on large new boat construction. He is available for refits and modifications to any boat but still specializes in metal construction.
Howdy was continually consulted during the interior and systems outfitting of "Casa Islena" after she left Norfolk for her new home port in Canada.
Howdy has been described on many occasions by clients and others in the industry as a real artist in metal. Howdy's extensive yacht building knowledge is only surpassed by his hospitality and friendly nature.
