Description

VESSEL DESCRIPTION

The Islander 34 is an excellent example of a solidly built purpose designed classic sailing yacht ready for blue water excursions. She is sloop rigged, with a deck stepped mast, full keel, skeg rudder and diesel engine. The interior is vintage late '60's with emphasis on storage space and adequate sleeping accommodations for six adults. The main salon offers a hanging locker forward and a quarter berth to starboard. The step- through galley is minimal by current standards but provides a sink, and insulated integral icebox with plenty of storage space. The Islander 34 was produced from 1967 through 1970. It is reported that only 14 vessels of this design were produced.

Greetings, I am selling my boat, just because I became older and I do not spend enough time sailing. It does not seem to be financially feasible to pay marina and maintain the boat. If I am not getting my reserve price, I will keep it because it is not financially feasible to sell it for peanuts, while I can still have some fun. This boat is very stable, very forgiving and very good for someone looking for learning to sail. It also feels very tough, so you do not need to worry about breaking it. Perkins Diesel starts and works excellent and she can be sailed anytime. She is considered to be built as blue ocean boat. Btw, Zack Sunderland sailed 1972 Islander 36 around the world when he became the youngest to do so (few years ago).

The most recent survey performed in 2010

can be viewed HERE:

I tried to make some marks on the survey, but it is not really easy, so I am doing it here. Few items have changed condition or became broken / removed. The list of all the changes visible to me are presented in the list below. This “changes list” is compiled based on the best of my knowledge approach. I do not consider myself neither experienced surveyor nor very experienced sailor. However, I spent 8 years owning this boat, all the maintenance required (from my point of view) was done by me, so I think I know this boat well. I did not care of visual upkeep, most of the things I have done were devoted to keeping this boat safe, engine running and clean inside. Top side was painted 2 years ago. Bottom is not cleaned for 3 years, but I may get it done (negotiable, depending on final price). While I have this boat diesel added about 270 hours, so now it stands at about 1500 hours (always maintained / winterized and etc.)

  • One AC outlet – gone (under the bank) needs to be reinstalled
  • Charging system – gone (still present on the boat, 1 out of two charging banks is dead, 150$ new)
  • Bulkhead in the head is slightly rotten (can be fixed) due to the leak form (I think the stanchion)
  • Only 2 batteries 1 starting battery (2 year old) and 1 house battery about 18 months old
  • Depth and Speed instruments needs to be replaced (Burned out by sun – data is invisible)
  • Soft spot with about 1’ of diameter is present, it does not spread / deck is still very solid
  • Dodger is usable but pretty worn-out
  • Main Halyard is old, new replacement halyard is purchased and present on board.
  • Varnish was removed; teak oil was used to keep teak in shape.
  • ST4000 is there, works fine.
  • Toilet was used only with waste tank (local regulations), so toilet to outside discharge valve stuck in “closed” position.
  • New cushions 2 years ago
  • Jib sheets are 2 seasons old
  • Couple extra sails including Spinnaker

I reserve the rights to sell it locally if getting a good offer.

I am planning to be sailing this weekend, so I can make extra picks, videos – just ask me / tell me what would be important to present (if any).
