1966 McKenzie, 16' Aluminum V-hull, Runabout with Johnson 40 HP Outboard Motor
Description
For sale is my very nice looking and operating, one owner (prior to me), vintage, 1966, 16' McKenzie Cherokee Runabout, aluminum, v-hull boat with Johnson 40 HP Seahorse (Workhorse) outboard motor and vintage Holsclaw trailer, all in excellent, original cosmetic condition. Aside from looking good, this boat, motor and trailer are all ready to roll. As I understood it, the original owner bought the new boat in 1966 and a brand new, left over Johnson 40 at the same time. Obviously the trailer, being a 1972, if memory serves me correctly, was purchased later.
All Marine Engine Repair Service LLC went completely over this beauty that had been garage stored since 1976. I know this as that was the latest trailer license plate registration as well as the latest boat sticker. The trailer was inspected, the wiring replaced and all necessary lights replaced and has a current PA registration, as does the boat.
This particular Johnson outboard is a great one to have and use. It's a smooth operating, powerful and extremely dependable 40 horsepower engine of which many were made (it was virtually unchanged for several model years) and parts are still available. This one had the fuel lines replaced, the carburetor cleaned, throttle cables replaced, one coil replaced and the water pump impellerreplaced and the pump rebuilt.
One of the most important issues on a vintage boat of this type was to remove the old steering cables and replace them with new stainless steel cables, change out the pulleys, bead blast and repaint the cable tensioners, and set the proper steering cable tension.
I haven't located it yet but I have invoices for the work done. This boat, motor and trailer are in amazing original condition cosmetically but perfectly safe and legal to operate today with the work done. The Holsclaw trailer has the original paint and the sandpaper-like traction piece on the top of each fender for use as a step.
Included is the original cover, two modern, plastic gas tanks, two vintage metal gas tanks, an extra propeller, a transom saver (needs to be installed on the trailer) and a new battery that's been on my Battery Tender trickle charge all winter. The windshield is amazingly clear, the original paint, even below the water line is very nice. Check out the original vinyl back-to-back upholstered seats with under seat storage. There's a nice area under the front apron for storage of life preservers, an anchor, etc.
Check out the photos and if you have any questions, please ask, I'll get back to you as soon as I can. This boat just screams "COOL" and what helps seal the deal, to me at least, is that it's very functional as well as cool. A fun boat to just cruise around in. Enough power to pull a skier and a fun boat for two fisherman to go out in.
