1971 Venture 22 Sailboat w/'09 Load Rite Trailer & '13 Tohatsu 6hp 4-str - $4750
Description
If you're looking for a ready-to-go, fully-equipped, capable little cruiser, "Whimsey" is your girl. She fulfilled our sailing dreams for 15 years and we'd still be enjoying her if we hadn't wanted something just a touch bigger. "Whimsey" has been professionally modified and improved from the original 1971 design, most significantly we replaced the original 1971 centerboard (a slab of steel plates wrapped in fiberglass and prone to delamination) with a solid cast-iron centerboard from a newer model. The centerboard cable is AmSteel Dyneema.
She was completely re-built in 1998 - fresh beige paint with red boot stripe, fresh white topside paint and non-skid, fresh almond and burgundy interior paint. New rub rail insert. New dinette and galley with Formica countertops and finished in red oak. Propane cooktop in fixed position and overboard-draining sink (with proper seacock) with manual pump. New interior lighting, now with LED bulbs. Custom interior cushions finished in brocade, custom curtains also finished in brocade, and custom closed-cell foam cockpit cushions covered in dark green Sunbrella. Bulkhead-mounted Aqua Meter compass, Humminbird "shoot thru hull" digital depth sounder. CDI FF2 furler with ball-bearing upgrade and North Sails Dacron 120% genoa with Dacron UV leech and foot. Bow roller, hawse pipe to interior enclosed anchor locker, and anchor rode with 20' of 3/16" proof coil chain spliced to 100' of 3/8" nylon 3-strand, Delta anchor. Stainless steel Solar Nicro Vent. Stainless steel stanchions (4) with white-vinyl coated 316SS lifelines; sturdy stainless steel bow pulpit. Original, beautiful and varnished mahogany rudder.
Rig modified and strengthened for Bay and coastal cruising: True masthead added to support main halyard, jib halyard, pendant-style topping lift, and spinnaker halyard, plus anchor light, headstay, and backstay. Boomkin added to transom to give additional backstay clearance on boom; spreaders set in-line and four additional chainplates added for separately mounted forward and aft lower shrouds; original forestay chainplate replaced with a stronger and better designed chainplate with additional fasteners; headstay and backstay wire diameters increased to 5/32" and all MacGregor adjuster plates replaced with bronze open-body turnbuckles. Forespar ADJ-6-12-DL twist-lock whisker pole and Lexan mast pad eye. Mainsheet moved from aft boom end to 3/4 aft, on two bails, and led to cockpit-spanning bar for ease of trimming while steering; ratchet block and cam.
In 2009, new Load Rite 5-Starr custom trailer.
In 2010, new North Sails NorLam 155% genoa and beige zippered Surlast cover sleeve. New 6oz. Dacron performance mainsail with single reef point. Custom Sunbrella mainsail cover in dark green. New Lewmar 7A jib sheet winches; cams on above-mentioned cockpit bar for ease of trimming while seated on windward side of cockpit. 8:1 boom vang.
In 2011, we stripped the bottom back to the gelcoat, repaired two small blisters, applied Interlux barrier coat, and finished with VC Offshore.
In 2013, new Tohatsu MFS6CL 4-stroke outboard motor.
Included: All above listed, plus:
Port-a-potty in good condition
Teak flag pole and US flag
6 gal. fuel tank *in enclosed and outside vented box in stern locker* with hoses
20 gal. water tank, fixed mounted in hull, under cockpit, and plumbed to galley sink and deck fill in cockpit seat.
Collapsible aluminum boat hook
Screen for main hatch
During my ownership, this boat has sailed once to the FL Keys on her own keel and back to Port Deposit, MD; been trailer-sailed on the Rideau Canal in Canada; and then returned to the Keys via trailer for 3 more fantastic adventures. "Whimsey" has been raced sucessfully (PHRF 258) on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, Region 1. A custom 2013 Doyle asymmetrical spinnaker and complete gear package are available for sale separately.
Most likely, the battery will need to be replaced.
The hull and topside paints show wear and chips.
Right now, "Whimsey" is under a cover in our side yard. She is dirty on the outside, under the cover, from 4 years of storage, but clean and fresh on the inside. Interested parties who would like to see the boat now, while in storage, can contact me to schedule a visit. If the buyer wishes, as part of the sale, I can wash the boat down, step the mast, and demonstrate the various components (without launching). I will also check the tires on the trailer, add air as needed, and grease the wheel bearings.
