1978 Ketch Ta Chiao 48' LOA 42' LOD 12'5 Beam 30,000 lb
Description
This vessel is being sold as is after an insurance loss. I have owned the vessel for 8 years and it has had a high degree of maintenance. The pictures are all from less then two weeks ago.
She was located in Winthrop for the winter and ice moved in and hung up the dock. It ripped the starboard side jib sheet track out and took some to the teak cap rail with it. there was some mold and water intrusion from poking a hole in the shrink wrap.
Over the years I have done the following to her.Bottom PaintSand and refinish the teak every two yearInterior teak was sanded and refinished.Interior overhead was cleaned and painted white again.Masts were scraped and paintedNew maine sheetNew jib sheetTwo new furling sheetsNow main sheet blocksNew jib blocksNew curtainsNew batteries for the house and engineSteering pedestal refinishedGarmin chart plotter and depth finder installed at helpNew wheel at helmRudder angel indicator rewiredNew aft headForward head striped and paintedNew aft cabin mattressNow hatch over the aft cabinBooms paintedEngine has a new fuel lift pump, raw water pump, priming pump. Two alternators installed at different timesNew belts and raw water impellorEngine cleaned and painedWiring to the helm replacedNew helm pump installed (hydraulic steering)New mizzen sheetNew house paint twice over the years (all the topside paint that is not non skid)New fresh water pumpNew hot water heaterNew water linesNew bilge pumpsWindows and port lights stripped and caulkedNew VHF radioNew radio and speakersAll interior spaces (cabinets) repainted in whiteNew dock linesNew paint for the boot stripSanded and refinished the blue mermaid figurehead. Hand painted and tipped (40 hours)Name plates on the bow and stern I stripped and refinishedNew mizzen mast spreader.Interior cleaned prior to every seasonDuring winter storage the vessel has many hanging dry bags and tubs to control moisture inside of the vesselVessel is stored properly shrink wrapped.
What she needs now is the sticks painted, repair work from the rail, deck scraped and painted, Injection pump rebuilt ( leaks diesel, but does run well), interior cleaned out.
Really she need a good through going through. She does come with a Garmin Chart plotter 3510 at the helm with the XM weather receiver. I bought this boat in Florida and moved by sea to her home here. I have had her personally in 20 foot plus seas and she was a very safe boat.
mizzen sail is good, main is serviceable, jib is serviceable, Head the head patch restitched. all are find for inshore work. Would need to be replaced for off shore.
She comes with a SSB. VHF, Spare parts and all paint used on vessel comes with her. Three CNG tanks as well. No dink included.
LOA 48
LOD 42
Beam 12' 5
30,000 displacement
Mast Main 50 Above waterline
Mizzen 35'
standing rigging good shape, running rigging ok. New head furling line needed.
Some other information remembered
Hull is solid Glass and no core. No hull issues, no soft spots.
Decks were teak. Pulled up and re cored all soft spots in 2007
paint is peeling in some parts of the deck
masts and booms are Sitka spruce
People have asked how much to return her to coastal cruising. My best guess is doing the work yourself is $10,000.00 to get back to a good inshore boat. (inside of 100 mile of shore)
Offshore would be much more as i would upgrade the rigging plan
Happy to answer all questions. I will hide nothing. Please note it must be off the mooring no later then Oct 20th and access is restricted by a locked gate. Once purchased she must be moved off of the mooring by the 20th. Thank you for looking. Had her 8 years. hate to let her go, but off to the next boat.
