I am the third owner of this boat and bought it from the previous owner in May of 2018. The boat was stored inside for its whole life prior to my ownership, and the condition of the gel coat and the interior shows. When I looked at the boat prior to purchase it was in the previous owners shop.
It has been well maintained having all routine maintenance done at Great Lakes Marine. Since I've owned it I've put nearly 100 hours on this boat with zero issues. When I had the full winterization/inspection performed by Great Lakes Marine (Denver, CO Cobalt dealer) in October 2018, no issues were found. I personally performed the winterization last year in accordance with the manufacturer's maintenance manual. It took me 30 minutes and I even went above and beyond the manual's requirements. The only issue I’ve ever had with this boat was when the impeller went out on Memorial Day weekend last year at Lake Powell; a friend and I were able to fix it in 15 minutes with a ratchet a couple beers. This is a turn-key boat, ready for a long summer season.
It is equipped with a 5.7 liter Volvo Penta Gi engine rated at 280 HP mated to the duo-prop outdrive. The engine has about 478 hours on it and it always starts, provides plenty of power, and runs so quietly and smoothly that all you hear at idle is the low hum of the fuel pump. The propellers are part of Volvo Penta part number 3851497 prop kit, which includes 3851477 aft prop and 3851467 forward prop at F7 pitch. There are a few minor dings on the props but the only downside is that you feel a little bit of vibration at idle forward power. The bilge is large and spacious with plenty of room to do your own maintenance. The outdrive is generally in good condition; however, there are a few minor nicks and scrapes.
This boat is loaded with all the best options. Standard gauges display the engine temp, oil pressure, fuel, battery voltage, and trim, while the speed is displayed on a PerfectPass Wakeboard Pro display with cruise control. I haven’t used the cruise control much, but it’s a nice option. From the factory the boat is equipped with a depth finder, water/air temperature gauge, docking lights, a large swim platform, a strong Samson collapsible wakeboard tower with board racks and speakers, Sunbrella bimini top, and dual batteries with switch.
The sound system consists of an Alpine CDA-9886M head unit with remote at the helm (remote at the stern is inop), six Sony XS-MP61 (6 + 3/4 in coaxial) speakers in the cabin, and four Infinity 60.7cs (6 + 3/4 in component) speakers in the tower all powered by two kicker m350.4 amplifiers. The system sounds good, but the head unit is a little fickle when you play music off the new iPhones so I would suggest replacing it. It gets the job done as long as you don't mess with it.
The boat comes with blue Sunbrella bow and cockpit covers made by Paul’s Custom Canvas in Denver (which came with the boat when I bought it) as well as a Sunbrella full cover custom made by PCC in 2018 for $1800. This full cover provides excellent protection when trailering and eliminates the need to shrink-wrap the boat in the winter (saving $200+ per year). I haven't opted for shrink wrap in the last two years, and you could never tell the difference.
The 2005 Dorsey trailer is also in excellent condition. The boat sits fairly low on the trailer, making it extremely stable while driving/cornering and the trailer has never swayed at all. Tires installed in June 2018 and only have a few thousand miles on them. LED lighting is present all around. Iron Bear Trailer in Denver performed a full service in March 2019, at which time they also installed a brand-new electric-over-hydraulic brake system and undercarriage. This system and upgrades cost over $3,000 and included a new Hydrastar Marine MHBA-16 brake pump, breakaway switch, 7-pin connector, new brake lines, all new brake rotors, brake calipers, and pads. This is the best possible brake system you can have on any trailer and it is powerful enough to stop both the boat and the tow vehicle on its own. You will need a brake controller with an electric-over-hydraulic mode, such as the Tekonsha P3, to control these brakes. I had a Tekonsha P3 brake controller installed in my old truck; however, the brake controller in my new truck does not control it because it does not have an electric over hydraulic setting. This means brake system has barely been used and only has about 50 miles on it. I can still demonstrate that the system is operative.
I have a bunch of accessories that I am willing to include with the sale, including: life jackets, an anchor, the bimini, bumpers, ropes, etc. You'll have everything you need to get out on the water.
As you can see, I’ve taken excellent care of this boat and have spared no expense when purchasing parts and accessories. This boat has treated me extremely well and will continue to perform for years to come. If I were to buy my first boat all over again, I would not hesitate to make this Cobalt the one. It's a fantastic boat at a fantastic price.
Colorado does not title boats, but the trailer does have a title. I do have a loan on this boat, but the lien is against the trailer since there is no boat title. The previous owner also had a loan, so I am familiar with the process required to transfer the title to your name.
