Described as “a serious fishing machine” by Tracker, the nearly 17-foot Pro 170 has a one-piece aluminum hull that goes beyond the basic john boat, with a full complement of ribs attached to both its hull and a longitudinal stringer. The corners of the transom are braced against the stresses of boating by precision-cut, welded aluminum gussets. If you spring the Mother of All Leaks, the Tracker Pro 170 will continue to float. Beneath its interior finish, the sides and bottom of the hull are filled with foam as a flotation aid. The boat is covered under the Tracker’s five-yearwarrantyon the boat and three-year warranty on the powder-coat paint job, the outboard and the fish finder that you can transfer to the second owner if you sell the boat.
The 2015 Tracker Pro 170 retains the molded control console of its predecessors with some serious upgrades for the angler, including a sport steering wheel and a Lowrance Elite-3x fish finder with a dual-frequency transducer. The Pro 170 has an 11-gallon gas tank and is rated for a 50-horsepower engine, but the engine packages begin with a 9.9-horsepower, four-stroke Merc. Other propeller-driven options include 25-, 40- and 50-horsepower, four-stroke, Mercury outboards, and Mercury’s 40-horse jet is also an option. One caveat about the outboard you choose, though: the morehorsepoweryou add, the higher the price for the package.
